The water buffalo is the quintessential bovine form throughout much of East Asia's cultural landscape. Placid, steadfast and immensely strong, solidly built with distinctive backswept sickle-shaped horns, it assumes the lead role in our Year of the Ox 2021 edition, the second in the oriental zodiac’s 12-year cycle.
Unmistakeable in inspiration and undeniably contemporary, Royal Selangor’s design for this new zodiac cycle is driven by its origin myth of the Great Race. Distinctive motifs of stylised waves, rocks and clouds from the hem of imperial dragon robes allude to the Jade Emperor and the myth’s important river crossing, whilst circular and rectilinear forms reference the Chinese concept of heaven and earth. Layered with depth and meaning, these collectibles grace the home as stylishly as they mark corporate occasions.
