Inspired by its resilience and aesthetic beauty, Jamy Yang’s appropriation of bamboo demonstrates the creativity and sensitivity of a designer intent on creating the perfect user experience. His concept, linked to the idiom zhizhu changle 知足常乐 which translates as ‘He who knows contentment finds happiness’, embraces the propensity in Chinese society to indulge in wordplay.
The Serenity collection was a finalist in the IDEA International Design Excellence Awards 2013 by the Industrial Designers Society of America.
One of China’s premier consultancies, Yang Design counts as clients not only blue chip domestic brands but also a host of global names including Absolut, Audi, Boeing, DuPont and Greenpeace. Jamy himself is a multi-award recipient, the Red Dot, iF Design Award and G Mark amongst them. In 2012, Jamy became the first Chinese designer to exhibit at Milan’s Salone del Mobile, the largest and most prestigious showcase of design and furniture in the world.
