Lim Kai Yi
Manufacturing Manager
Inspiring Artisans to Excel
Inspiring Artisans to Excel Energetic and equally at home with people or machinery, Kai joined Royal Selangor in October 2018.
He ensures the production process runs smoothly in a safe, conducive environment. A health enthusiast and popular colleague with good people skills, Kai is also the president of the Royal Selangor Sports Club. He encourages healthy lifestyle and teamwork by introducing internal sporting events like badminton tournaments, bowling and volleyball competitions. “I was planning to move to KL because my girlfriend then and I planned to be married and live in the city. I looked up the company when I found out about a job opportunity. What impressed me was how the family business was so professionally run with a family charter. This, to me, signifies a proper way of running an organisation.
When the Managing Director, Yong Yoon Li (the Executive Director back then) interviewed me, I sensed immediately that we can work well together. What I really like about working here is although the company is 135 years old, it constantly evolves and embraces change. The top management is very open to new ideas, willing to try new ways of doing things, which is very encouraging for someone who is considered new like me when my ideas are well accepted and implemented.”
Kai’s approach is ideal for Royal Selangor where the creation of beautiful products depends on nurturing and motivating artisans whose skills and craftsmanship are integral to its heritage.
